The children have been exploring sounds and cause and effect in a variety of different ways. To support this, we have been doing lots of different art and sensory experiences that allow and support this exploration. Today a large ice block was placed out for the children to explore, it immediately caught the attention of the whole group as they rushed over to see. Hammers were placed out beside it and without hesitation the children begun to hammer away. The exciting part was when they were able to get out the little treasures that were frozen in it
To further expand on this and connect it with the interest of art we also did ice cube painting. It was a hit as the children explored it. J.D. was very focused on tapping it over and over again on his paper “Oh look” as it made little paint marks. C was fully enjoying sliding it all over her paper as she explored different ways: up, down and side to side very fast “look see”. R explored it in a very interesting way, instead of moving it on her paper she placed it in her hand and let it melt, which put the paint on her hand and then she painted with it, very creative ????. It was a wonderful art experience as the children all had their own ideas of how and what they wanted to explore and do.
