This morning, M stayed inside with a small group of children while the busier group went outside. Once the room calmed down, M felt comfortable to go out and explore. We walked over to the Pikler Triangle and began to climb up. He got to the top and pointed to the slide “down” he said to the educator. The educator recognized that M wasn’t completely secure in this interaction and offered her help. Lauren worked with M to lean his body over the top and slide down on his belly. Their excitement must have caught B’s attention who came over. B saw him and eagerly came over and began looking at him through the slats. M would duck down and so would B smiling at each other. The two continued their game of Peek-a-Boo a few more times before M then looked at the empty space beside him as if to say “Hey buddy, I have room for you” B definitely took that look as his invitation to join him. As B climbed up, you could see a little smirk come across M’s face and then a great big smile came across B's face. The two stood side by side smiling and talking to one another for a few minutes before they decided to go their separate ways and continue exploring the environment. Watching children develop secure attachments, a sense of belonging and develop relationships with one another is just such a beautiful thing!
