It’s the beginning of the school year and with new children attending our program comes feelings of uneasiness. As I was welcoming Dawson in our before school program, we were talking about what types of activities he enjoys. Dawson shares with me that he likes hot wheels cars. Together we build a small ramp to push the cars down. A smile on Dawson’s face shows me he is starting to feel more comfortable. The following day another student who was observing our play the day before offered to make Dawson a "super cool ramp, bigger and better" then we currently constructed. This was a kind gesture from this young man to make a new student feel special as he recalled his first day of JK. We are in the process of designing a Kindness Wall for our environment to acknowledge the children’s goodwill and hospitality.
